Today’s lesson will teach us how to get started playing hot rockin' guitar solos. This is very important for efficient progress in your lead guitar playing. If you get going correctly from the very get-go, you will have fun along your journey of becoming a great lead guitar player.
The best scale pattern to get started with
The minor pentatonic scale is the best scale pattern to get started with. This scale is very common in a lot of “classic rock” songs and has been used by all the great rock guitar players. Players such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Angus Young, Eddie Van Halen, and the infamous Jimmy Page.
Watch the video lesson below
There are 5 scale patterns that you want to learn but I recommend you start with pentatonic scale pattern 1. This is a very easy scale to learn and what you can create with it is endless. If you learn the other 4 and learn to connect them, you can create a road map that your fingers can drive on.
How to play anywhere on the fretboard
First of all, they create a fingerboard road map that your fingers can drive on. You learn how to play anywhere on the fretboard. This allows you to stay in key. This is where the fun is—being able to play anywhere on the fretboard with confidence!
Knowing that any note you play will sound good no matter what! It would help if you first got started. Start with scale pattern 1. The one shown above. As you can see, this pattern is easy to understand and will be easy to play.
Learn where to play on the fretboard
Many guitar players face a common problem. Knowing where to play. This means they don’t hit all the right notes. By knowing where the right notes are located along the fretboard, they are going to sound good when you play them. This is the “secret” to playing guitar solos. Knowing how to sound good every time.
Being able to do this comes with time. But if you have the right tools to do the job, it will come a lot easier. Those tools are the scale patterns and the techniques associated with making them sound like music. It is not enough to know the scales and where to play them. You must also know the techniques associated with them to get them to sound pleasant to the ear. To make people say, "Wow, that sounds awesome!"
